our services
Sedation & General Anesthesia.
Some children need a little extra help to get through dental care safely and calmly. Here's what our options are and what to expect.
why sedation?
When sedation can help
Sedation may be recommended for very young children, kids with strong dental anxiety, children with special health care needs, or when a lot of treatment is needed at once. Dr. Shebani will talk through every option with you and recommend what's safest and most comfortable for your child.
lightest option
Nitrous oxide
A sweet-smelling mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen breathed through a small nose mask. Kids stay awake and relaxed, and it wears off within minutes once the mask comes off.
deeper calm
Oral sedation
A liquid medicine given at the office before treatment that makes children drowsy and calm. They can still respond, and their breathing and vital signs are monitored the whole time.
fully asleep
General anesthesia
Your child is completely asleep, so all treatment can be done safely in one visit. It is provided by a qualified anesthesia provider who monitors your child from start to finish, often in a hospital or surgery-center setting.

The day of and recovery
Plan a quiet day at home. Your child may be sleepy or wobbly for a few hours, so stay close, start with soft foods and liquids, and call us with any questions. Most kids are back to normal by the next day.
